Summary

Korean Air finalized its massive purchase of 103 Boeing aircraft as part of the carrier's long-term fleet modernization following its integration with Asiana Airlines. The order includes 20 Boeing 777-9s, 25 787-10 Dreamliners, 50 737-10s and eight 777-8 Freighters.

The aircraft portion of the agreement has a list-price value of approximately $36.2 billion, while Korean Air values the broader aircraft, engine and maintenance package at approximately $44.8 billion. Around 80% of the new aircraft are expected to replace existing airplanes rather than simply expand the fleet.

The deal gives Boeing an important commitment spanning virtually every major segment of its commercial-aircraft portfolio: narrowbody, long-haul passenger and cargo aircraft. It also illustrates how Korean Air is positioning its combined fleet following the Asiana integration.
